Visiting An Osteopath

The Process

You do not have to see your G.P before visiting an Osteopath although you may need to if you are having treatment on private health insurance.

On your first visit a full case history will be taken including details of the present complaint and your medical history. This will be followed by an examination in which posture will be assessed together with the painful areas. Sometimes it may be advisable to seek further information in the form of blood tests, x-rays or scans. In these cases I may seek permission to contact the patients G.P in order to arrange for these tests to be carried out.

It is often necessary for the patient to undress down to their underwear for the examination to be carried out. Gowns are provided for females if required.

On completion of the examination I will explain my diagnosis and tell the patient whether Osteopathic treatment is likely to be helpful and, if so, what the treatment will entail.
